Money Talks in Hancock County

Hancock County is really lucky! One of the nine sister counties of the Indianapolis metropolitan statistical area (MSA), Hancock County is one of the most strategically located counties in Central Indiana. Located on the I-70, Hancock County is the third fastest growing county of Indiana. Its advantageous position on the map makes it an ideal middle ground for major East-West and South-North transportation corridors.

As an economy, Hancock County is a booming one, providing opportunities to thousands of residents in the areas of manufacturing (30 percent), service (25 percent), retail trade (19 percent), and other professional jobs. Because of the economic rise, major companies like 21st car insurance, Walmart, and major food chains, can make plans to move in and not only create more jobs, but provide convenience for this town and neighboring cities. The growing populations of other nationalities of African, Asian and Hispanic origins also contribute to this economic development. Aggressive marketing and relationship management programs have represented the local government nationally and internationally. By retaining quality of jobs and promoting a varied tax base, the Hancock Economic Development Council has made the county and its cities one of the best places to live in Indiana.

Many think that Hancock County’s city capital, Greenfield, may not boast of big corporations like its neighbor Indianapolis. Big names like Covance, Sam’s Club, Adidas, Gas America, Inc. and Novelty Inc., to name a few have had their birth in Hancock County. These corporate big shots have not only contributed to the burgeoning economic growth of Hancock County seat, but also work towards giving back to the community as well. For example, Gas America Inc., with its Hometown Heroes Program, honors people in the community who have done something good for the public.

The Hancock County Airport is also a major player in the economy of the state. The airport has more jet traffic than any of the Indianapolis Airport Authority’s three reliever airports do. The extensive networks of roadways, and the airport facilities, the excellent recreational facilities and educational system make Hancock County an enviable competitor in the economic growth of Indiana.
